The RAW Preview

The RAW Preview – 02/05/2016The dust has finally settled, and what an event WWE Payback turned out to be! There were highs and lows throughout the event, with a few shockers and unfortunate incidents taking place. In the main event, AJ Styles took on Roman Reigns, and after a valiant effort, Roman was finally able to put AJ down for the three count, and retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the process.
This week’s edition of Monday Night RAW emanates from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri and will be the first night Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon begin their duties as co – in charge of RAW. While the McMahons have already announced the main event for WWE Extreme Rules, what else can we expect from this week’s episode? Let’s take a look.
Can the siblings co – exist?
Starting now, Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon would have to put their differences aside and work together, considering they’re both in charge of Monday Night RAW. While the power struggle has always persisted in the McMahon family, this will be the first time both the siblings will be forced to work as a cohesive unit. However, after berating his little brother for weeks – even hoping that Shane wouldn’t be able to walk out of WrestleMania 32, can Stephanie McMahon put her pride aside?
Shane McMahon has been a breath of fresh air in the company, and during the weeks he was in charge of RAW, numerous young stars got their opportunities to show the world what they’re capable of. While Vince McMahon might’ve outdone himself by putting both the McMahons in charge, there is also palpable tension between Shane and Stephanie.
This week will give us a better idea as to how the two siblings will fare as co – authority figures. Shane and Stephanie might not have seen eye to eye for years, but they share the same McMahon blood, and it will be interesting to see how their first day goes.
What does Roman Reigns have to say about the rematch?
At WWE Payback, AJ Styles brought his A – game, and nearly defeated Roman Reigns on multiple occasions. While Roman was once again able to defy the odds and get the better of AJ Styles – as well as The Bullet Club, the way the Pay Per View ended might not please the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon made their first decision as co – authority figures, and put AJ Styles in the main event of WWE Extreme Rules for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
While Roman has made a career by overcoming adversities, it might be difficult even for Roman Reigns to walk out of two PPVs with the title, especially against a competitor like AJ Styles. AJ Styles has “been there and done that”, and has held major titles around the world. So does Roman Reigns think Styles deserves a rematch for his title? We will get his thoughts on this week’s edition of Monday Night RAW.
Natalya’s response after getting screwed out of the championship
WWE Payback had its highs and lows, but perhaps the lowest point of the Pay Per View was when Charles Robinson, the official who refereed the WWE Women’s Championship match screwed Natalya, by ringing the bell even before Natalya submitted. Charles Robinson has had a long, well documented history with “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, and is even called “Li’l Naitch” by the hardcore fans for his association with Ric during their time in WCW.
While Bret and Natalya couldn’t believe how things unfolded, especially the manner in which it all played out, reminding Bret Hart about the infamous ‘Montreal Screw Job’ incident in ’97, they had the last laugh when they locked Ric Flair and Charlotte in stereo Sharpshooters. However, Charlotte still walked out of the Allstate Arena with the title, and you have to wonder what Natalya has in store for the champion come RAW.
A four – way rivalry brewing for the Intercontinental title?
While no championship changed hands at Payback, Cesaro came extremely close to winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship. During their bout, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens got into a slugfest at ringside, distracting the referee who did not see The Miz tap out to the Crossface! Sami and Owens then fought on the apron, before Cesaro pushed them off, but this gave Miz enough time to recuperate and the “A Lister” rolled him up with a handful of tights to pick up the victory, and more importantly to retain his championship.
However, post match, a furious Cesaro dropped Miz with the Neutralizer, but was taken out by Kevin Owens. Owens then dropped Sami with the Pop Up Powerbomb, and when he tried to condemn The Miz to the same fate, his wife pulled him out of the ring. All the three superstars have a valid argument to be the next in line to face The Miz for the coveted championship, which opens up a four way rivalry between the superstars – something The Miz would not want any part of.
Are we in store for more surprises on RAW?
Finally, there have been rumors swirling around about new superstars coming up to the main roster, and the return of a few top stars from their long injury lay off. This week’s RAW will roll out of St. Louis – the hometown of former WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Randy Orton. While there is a strong possibility that Orton might make his return to in – ring competition this week, he isn’t the only superstar whose name is making rounds.
According to multiple reports, Seth Rollins has been making a rapid progress, and is slated to be back much before the original timeline. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion never lost his title, and when he returns, he will undoubtedly go after the championship he never lost in the first place. Last but not least, the former NXT Champion Finn Balor is also rumored to make his debut on the main roster this week, which will be a treat for the WWE Universe. This week’s edition is turning into a must watch affair, as we witness the fallout from Payback.
